Hong Kong - Kuala Lumpur Day 5 - 19th Aug 06' we left our hotel last night around 9.30pm... the coach came and sent us to the airport... arrived the airport approximately 10.30pm... checked in sy's luggage and immediately went looking for a cozy spot to bunk in for the night... didn't do much... and conked out on the comfy cushioned seats... there was a thunderstorm that night... loud thunders and heavy downpours so much so... i awoke to the announcement made that flights were delayed/cancelled due to some red alert thingy... it was freaky as they repetitively make that announcement every 10 minutes or so... the past few days i was in hong kong weather was fine and sunny all along... at most it drizzles and that was it... i was three-quarter awake then and overheard a guy spoke over the phone talking about the condition... soon after a security came up to me... not sure if he is but i think he is (since he's having some walkie talkie thingy) cos i was like erm 3/4 blind as i was not wearing my specs... he asked if i was a hongkie... and i replied no i'm a m'sian... then he further asked if i was planning on staying over at the airport... so i said yes since i will be leaving on an early flight the next day... he then in a friendly manner told me not to worry and go ahead with my sleep at the airport as it is claim to be very safe... oh well... flight departed at 8.50am... we woke up about 7am to do last minute duty free shopping and sy purchased her perfume... initially she wanted to get a watch but it was no longer there... what i've bought on my trip... from this trip to hong kong... i noticed that... hongkies live in a very hectic lifestyle... they are rude but claimed that it is their culture as the environment they live in moulded them to be what they are... they looked exactly like malaysians in terms of their dressing or looks... they have no patience in repeating things twice and if u make them do so they'll raise their voice or speak to u harshly... their boutique outlets has no changing rooms even if u plan on buying jeans/skirts/shorts/bikinis... they aren't the friendliest people around... u don't get to choose seats in a coffee-restaurant-shop-like they fit u in to wherever there's space even tumpang-ing with others without first seeking their permission... alright i realised that there is a lot of negativity in hong kong... but i can't say i did not enjoy my trip there... as a matter of fact i did... apart from the fact that i was a little afraid in asking/talking to them cos' they seem fierce and not friendly at all... i was happy during my tour around several districts... eating... enjoying the tram rides, the bus rides... and walk shop eat like the locals do from this trip to hong kong... i learned that... being able to read mandarin and having able to speak in cantonese is important to get u around... although some of the words they use is slightly different for example the phrase "what is the price", what we usually say is "gei dor lui" but they corrected us by saying "gei dor chin" and during dim sum they don't call fish ball as "yu tan" but something else... by the end of my 10 days vacation i learned that... travelling with a buddy is not always easy unless u practice "give & take" or not there will be arguements or clashing in opinions... for instances... during dim sum session sy doesn't want "bau" but i really wanted to try, she gave in and shared with me, she also gave in with the honeydew sago which she claimed to see my desperate look of wanting to order one more although her stomach couldn't take... while in korea i accompanied her all the way to itaewon just to find a money changer and left immediately after having done so to where we originally were to purchase her last minute stuff... apart from that... occasionnally because of the heat, tiredness and restlesness, got us cranky and easily annoyed yet we did not show much and be patience although what the other party did was annoying... in addition to that, during this trip i learned to be more independant and streetwiser... not exactly much MUCH wiser in the street factor but yeah at least more than i am in m'sia i guess... hehe... i survived on just 5 tops and 5 shorts... i survived on biscuits, i survived on tight budgetting... i survived on walking long distances, i survived hopping on confusing subways... there is much to learn on trips like these... it wasn't long but it wasn't that short either... so yes all i can say is i am proud of myself and my buddy for being able to manage our own routes and followed what was planned in our research done earlier e.g. the places to visit, cuisines to try, subway lines to take, buses number time & routes, accomodations, estimated fees, estimated expenses... etc etc etc all in all... this trip rocks biggie!!!~ =) Labels: Vacation-ing mun [
